Continental Drift
Continental Drift
Continental Drift is the slow movement of earths crust due to plate tectonics moving over billions of years.
Types of Plate Movement
- Divergent plate movement happens when two plates move away from each other. This can result in the formation of new crust along the boundary between the plates, such as the creation of new oceanic crust at a mid-ocean ridge.
- Convergent plate movement is when two plates move towards each other. This can create volcanoes.
- Transform plate movement happens when two plates slide past each other horizontally. This can result in the creation of fault lines and earthquakes.
